Letter of the Catholic Parish Community Saint Mary Ascension Uedelhoven for then years Peru-Aid

A lot of smaller and bigger supporting events in the area of the Catholic Church are known to us.
Not often you find private initatives which henceforth administrate successfully help for self-help for needy persons in Peru for already ten years.

When ten years ago some 'idealists', who had seen and experienced the misery of the people in Peru for themselves, started to help nobody would have thought that this is not a 'flash in a pan', but a continuous support which even become more and more successful.

A stationary kidney dialysis, infusion pumps and infusions solutions, heart-lung machines, ambulances and sick beds are only a few of the goods which were sent to Peru. The delivery of workshops for the practical training of young people done by our brothers of the Salesians and the Franciscans is to be mentioned as one of the many relief supplies.

Machines out of a joiner's workshop, of a bakery and even printers out of our own parochial bureau were important supplements for the projects in Peru.

A thank you goes out to all the aiders under the guidance of Manfred Görgens who helped finding and sending the relief supplies and to all the generous donators.

The feeling of not being alone in the effort not to forget our next and to fight together for peace in this world, gives us the courage to go on. Not to forget the silent prayers of many believers who share our common worry about the poor people in Peru and in the Third World.

Willingly the parishes of our parish community Blankenheim, Blankenheimerdorf, Mülheim, Lommersdorf-Freilingen, Rohr-Lindweiler, Reetz and especially the parish of Uedelhoven-Ahrdorf support the efforts of the Peru-Aid.

Letter from Dr. med Franz-Josef Zumbé for ten years Peru-Hilfe.

Ten years of the Peru-Aid means ten years of enormous, very imaginative commitment by a few idealists under the guidance of Manfred Görgens who has proved to be a true artist of motivation.

I was able to see the constant growth and the enormous variety of support, especially the help for self-help during this time. Support was given to the huge children's hospital in Lima which is under the direction of Dr. Ramirez who accomplished a part of his training to be a children's doctor in the hospital of Mechernich. For this purpose everything froma simple telephone system to dialysis facilities was organised.

Not only tons of infusion solutions (for example during the cholera epidemic in 1991/92) and a lot of technical equipment were organised, but also specialists were mobilised who know how to to use these and are able to explain these to others. They were even able to win over the international heart specialist Prof. Gerhard Ziemer to operate on more than 50 children with grave cardiac defects in Peru who otherwise would have had only a slight chance of survival. More surgeries are planned.

You could go on with listing these spontaneous unbureaucratic supplies like, for example, the providing of complete workshop equipments to train young people who otherwise would have been without any chances of survival.

We let ourselves be attached by the enthusiasm of the 'Peruvian Uedelhoveners'. We tried to help and we want to continue helping.
It will be desirable if through this the view of the misery in Peru is sharpened everywhere in the Third World and that thereby we might get away from the constant moaning over our social and health care political situation which is said to be allegedly spiralling further downward.

Helping from a point of view ancient Christian origin. That is the challenge here.

I congratulate the Peru-Aid on this jubilee, I encourage everyone to continue and I promise to you that I will support you with all my strength.
